About Community World Cup Event
The goal of the Community World Cup is to raise funds and awareness for organizations that actively support children from various backgrounds to overcome any obstacles they may be facing. The Community World Cup will score this goal by bringing both communities and businesses together on the same team through the “beautiful game” called football.
The Community World Cup is a one-day soccer tournament for adults of all skill levels. It is a chance for friends, family, co-workers, and even strangers to play the game they love while benefiting others. Last year’s event proved this. Following the success of last year’s event, we are hoping to have more players and fans at the second annual Community World Cup. There will be lots of activities to keep family members of all ages entertained.
The Community World Cup is excited to announce that Danny Dichio of Toronto FC will be this year’s Honourary Chair. Not only has Danny become a fan favourite across Canada while he plays for Toronto FC, but he also supports the community through his charitable efforts. Last year, we announced at the Community World Cup that Danny donated the boots that he scored the first goal in the history of Toronto FC to Bloorview Kids Rehab –over $13,000 was raised through an online auction! This year, Danny has partnered with the Community World Cup to provide access to camps that he will be running for under privileged children and children from high-risk areas. Danny will also be running a children’s soccer clinic at the event with the Toronto Police Service’s FOR K.I.C.K.S program.
This year’s event will also honour one of Canada’s best ambassador’s for soccer, the late Brian Budd. “The Brian Budd Celebrity Kick-about” is a thirty-minute soccer game, during our lunch time festivities, featuring celebrities who knew Brian as well as those who support the Toronto Police Service and Street Kids International. Under the direction of the FOR K.I.C.K.S program, the Brian Budd PAL award will be given out to both a male and female member of the community who exhibit three important traits that Brian held close to his heart as vital to the development of our youth: Performance, Academics, and Leadership.
We hope to continue to create lasting memories for the players and fans throughout the day, while supporting the recipients of the funds raised at this year’s Community World Cup: Street Kids International and the Toronto Police Force’s “For K.I.C.K.S” program.
We all believe that every child deserves a chance.
